The other morning my husband went downstairs to get something and that is when I hear "Megan", in a tone that something is wrong. First thought, water heater... We have been watching the water heater since we moved in because it was old (13 years). We were praying that when it did go we would be home and that it would not burst, did not want to deal with that mess. We were very blessed and the water heater was only dripping. But still not what we wanted to do today but really glad we were home and found it then! Here is our old 40 gallon water heater:
Because there was not a whole lot of water, we wondered if it was just the Pressure Valve. But after putting a container under the pipe and not finding water in the container only on the floor. We knew it was the water heater leaking... NOTE: Sometimes the pressure valve will leak and you just need to replace that part, for about $20.
We decided on a 50 gallon water heater, not the 40, because it is for 3-5 people. And we had our fingers crossed that it would fit in the space without any troubles (we plan on moving the water heater and did not want to pay to make it work in this spot for only a little while). My dad came to save the day and helped us (OK lets be honest, he did all the work) put in our new water heater. After watching, it does not look hard to replace a water heater, as long as everything lines up. And guess what our new water heater fit perfect, 2 inches bigger and it fit!!! Happy Day! Here is our new water heater in place.
Look at that new beauty... It took my dad about 1 1/2 hours to put the water heater in. After seeing the space without a water heater, I can not wait to add a linen closet there.
